Trillium Tribe

We are from the North Coast of Mendocino. We are drawn together by the love of world music and Dance. During the past 5 years we have gathered weekly to explore rhythms and lyrical feminine beauty through these forms. Our dances are drawn from traditional tribal styles throughout the world culminating into a California Fusion Belly Dance. Trillium Tribe is available for Special Events, Blessing Ways and Educational Forums.

Nicole Fish

Head Teacher /Choreographer

Nicole Fish has been involved with the rich world of Middle Eastern Dance for the last 13 years, she has co-produced and performed in events on the Mendocino coast. Inspired by the music and rhythms of the Middle East as can be seen in her passionate and playful style. For the last six years, Nicole has also immersed herself in the studies of Bharata Natayam, or Devadasi Sadir. This outstanding form of South Indian Dance is where Nicole has truly come into her own. As this form of Devotional dance requires rigorous training of the body and mind, as the depth of a dancer's heart and grace is revealed and offered.

Elika Freeman

Born and raised in Westport, CA. She began dancing at age 4 studying jazz moving into hip pop. Active in theater arts throughout school, she discovered Belly Dance in 2002. Her continued participation with Trillium Tribe has inspired her deeply through the continued growth and sisterhood of the troupe.

She now teaches Belly Dance at the Mendocino Recreation Center onWednesdays for beginers and Thursdays for intermediate.

Jan Hinson

Treasurer/Co-Teacher

Sentenced to 7 years of ballet at the tender age of 8 due to toes pointing in the wrong direction, she survived and went on to a career in High School musicals.

Twenty five years later she discovered that muscle memory lasts longer than the usual kind when she returned to Dance through Sevillanas and Swing.

Noticeing the heritage of 'isolations' from Africa to Jazz and Hip Hop she began studying Middle Eastern Dance in 2002.
Today she teaches Swing Dance and dreams of being a choreographer when she grows up.

Lavender Grace Kent

Promotion/Tech/Co-Teacher

LGK

Lavender began dancing with this group in 2002. She has learned a great sense of feminine beauty and how to support each other in belonging to that beauty. In showing up every week we teach each other an honesty of womanhood as we share our lives and experiences given within it.

Holly Newstead

Bookings

Dancing from the age of 5 when her mother put her in a ballet class. After several years honing her skills, Holly decided the costuming wasn’t satisfying, so she joined gymnastics where she found pleasure in sequined leotards. Upon her entrance to college, in the mid eighties, more pleasure was found in bad eighties nightclub wear. In 2003, after seeing a flyer offering a belly dance class in Mendocino, Holly’s costuming interest was again piqued. Holly has been now been dancing with Trillium Tribe since 2004 and has an extensive costume collection.
